AkzoNobel is a world leading supplier of coatings and inks for the protection and decoration of general line cans, metal closures and collapsible tubes. AkzoNobel's metal coatings enhance and protect thousands of products made from steel and aluminium, their coatings are renowned for their high performance and trend-setting looks.
CEMA Lighting recently installed a bespoke lighting system across the Offices, Production, Laboratories and Warehouse areas at the AkzoNobel Hull site. The main objectives of the lighting project were to improve the light levels and light quality throughout the site, along with reducing energy and Carbon consumption in line with their ISO 14001 environmental standards.
This particular project was subject to some trial and error with different light levels and colour temperatures from various LED luminaires, as some inks AkzoNobel use are sensitive and react to certain UV Light. After months of co-operation and cohesion between CEMA Lighting and AkzoNobel, we were able to offer a bespoke lighting solution to meet all of their criteria, with no effect on the inks.
Initially, AkzoNobel had a mixture of recessed and linear style fluorescent tube fittings throughout the Offices and Laboratories, with Metal Halide fittings in the Production and Warehouse Areas. All of the existing lighting was old and outdated, wasting energy through inefficient lighting and incurring costs through regular lamp replacements and maintenance.
AkzoNobel’s site now accommodates CEMA Lighting’s popular ‘Halo’ Panel in the office spaces which do not show signs of degradation, CEMA Lighting’s IP65 encased Linear Batten, and CEMA Lighting’s Industry Leading 200 lumens per watt IP65 Highbay, which have an anticipated lifespan of over 100,000 hours.
The outcome of the project was CEMA Lighting reducing AkzoNobel’s lighting costs and CO2 consumption by 78%, which even included replacing some lower quality LED on site which had started to show signs of failure and degradation.
The life expectancy, combined with CEMA Lighting’s on site ‘Fit & Forget’ Warranty has given AkzoNobel a future proof lighting solution which eradicates maintenance costs and gives peace of mind, allowing AkzoNobel to concentrate on their day-to-day production requirements.
