Somercotes Academy, based on the rural east coast of Lincolnshire made the decision to embark on a ground-breaking environmental scheme to decarbonise their school, reduce their energy bills and reduce their reliance on fossil fuels.
With access to funding from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and a proactive approach, Somercotes Academy began the ambitious scheme of improvements and upgrades to their lighting, heating systems and the addition of solar panels to enable them to have a more positive impact on the environment.
Somercotes Academy teamed up with CEMA Lighting to improve their lighting across the school site from sports halls to canteens, corridors to classrooms. Our knowledgeable consultant recognised the energy saving goals coupled with the need to provide a well-lit environment for staff and students alike. On this basis we proposed a lighting scheme replacing over 350 traditional lighting fittings with our CEMA Lighting exclusive high-efficient luminaires across the site giving the optimum lighting of 500 Lux as recommended by CIBSE for communal areas and school environments.
Our installation team worked around the Academy to successfully complete the project with minimum disruption to their operations. The team installed our exclusive 200 lumens per watt Super High-Output HighBay in the main sports hall offering the highest efficiency on the European market maximising light output and energy savings. Our LED High-Output Panel Lights were installed in classrooms offering bright, clear energy efficient lighting perfect for learning environments and the canteen areas now benefit from increased lighting levels using our energy-efficient IP65 LED Linear Batten Light.
Since upgrading their lighting, Somercotes Academy have a future-proof lighting system saving 25 tonnes of CO2 annually which is the equivalent to planting 150 trees per year. With a 63% annual saving on their lighting energy costs the Academy can now redistribute the money saved back into more vital learning projects.
